this is life?

the Elusive.

ever just inches beyond grasping.
ever just a double-take out of sight.

ever just a few marks behind a sense of worth.
ever just a few kilos out of reach of adequacy.

always a compliment behind approval.
always another story to maintain the reputation.

always a few invites short of security.
always another orgasm short of lasting satisfaction.

ever a few moments late for joy.
always a few words out of sync.

ever not quite on the same page.
always a slight disconnect between glances.

ever a spot to polish on the projected facade.
always more words to justify the idiosyncracies.

ever a brewing knot to untie.
always a worry furrowed in my brow.

ever a cloud of uncertainty over my future.
always a hesitation to love fully.

always waiting for something to happen.
ever restless to finally rest, deeply.

never quite feeling known.

this is life?

come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and i will give you rest. take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am gentle and humble in heart. for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - jesus. matthew 11.28-29
