chandler on colossians

Women have a tendency to pit the sin of fear/anxiety against the sin of control and manipulation. But in the end? Sin wins.

Men have a tendency to pit the sin of lust against the sin of self-righteousness. But in the end? Sin wins.

Three weapons against the residue of sin:

1. Blood of Christ

I have been brought near to God by the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. When I stumble with residual wickedness, my approach to God is not affected.

God doesn't love me because I obey the law, but because of the blood of Jesus.

Through the lens of the blood of Jesus, He sees me as spotless and without guilt.

2. The Word of God

The primary weapon of grace against the residue of sin.

When you stumble and fall, don't run from God and try to clean yourself up, and return to Him later. When you stumble and fall, don't look to your own effort or resolve; run TO God.

3. The promise of the new covenant

A death has occurred to erase the consequences of my sin. !!!

Some people try to find "freedom" by breaking all the rules; others try to find "freedom" by keeping all of them. But both scream to God, "I don't need you!".
